CONTROL SURVEYS

Control surveys may be used to monitor a potential unstable situation such as landslides or be used to give a "datum” or basis for subsequent surveys.  They are usually surveys done with very exacting standards using multiple sitings and repetitious measurements or the use of

taken for a long time on each point. 

Control surveys are usually seen as a prelude to major development of a large parcel of land or used establish a control network for municipalities for future planning.
